Mia is more than a sweet, study-oriented Asian woman from her mother’s side of the family. She is the latest participant in a highly paid mysterious psychology study being led by June in an equally mysterious modern building on campus.
Having always focused on positivity and learning, Mia is a graduate of the university where the study is being conducted, and while things may have changed, she hasn’t. She still has a smile and all the fascination with the technology used for this study.
But when Mia finds herself experiencing a twisted story about a sweet Asian girl and her mother dominated by a boyfriend named Daman, she may find herself dealing with troubles she never expected.
10,000 Words of Kreme!
Mia is expecting a mental obstacle course to test her in one way or another. Any psychology study should probably be aimed to cause stress, whether emotionally or just within her mind, and Mia is ready for it with the most positive attitude.
Having always put studies and learning at the forefront of her thoughts, Mia is one of the oldest volunteers to be accepted, a graduate from the university she returns to for the paid psychology study. And while certain things have changed, most notably the modern building where the study is being held, Mia is positive that today is going to be a good day.
Intimidated by June, a woman not as tall as Mia but more curvy in ways men have to be crazy about, she thinks, Mia is excited by the prospect of such a unique sounding technologically fascinating machine as the PORTALS machine. Yet once she is sealed into the chamber, Mia may be unprepared for a story that hits just a bit too close to home.
In the story she hears about a sweet girl named Elora, whose mother happens to be Asian, just like Mia’s mother is, and who has a focus on learning and positivity just like Mia does. But Elora has boyfriend troubles… in the form of a new boy at school who just seems… different.
Daman possesses a strange charm over her nearly right from the start, and throughout the course of her senior year, Daman changes everything about sweet smart Elora… including dumbing her down and making her focus more on subservient sex.
But as fascinated as Mia might be by the obviously advanced holographic technology that brings that story and those characters to life, the action she soon witnesses is causing more than a bit of discomfort and unease. Repeatedly telling herself it is just a story, not real… even if everything around her looks so real, what will Mia think when she finds herself emotionally reacting by kicking at the holographic bedroom near the end of the story only to find herself kicking an actual bedroom door frame?
As downstairs, the others hear a thumping upstairs… Elora and her parents wait as Daman seems intent to go check it out, and when a fictional character walks right up and speaks to her, Mia is truly unprepared for the strange dominating trouble he almost immediately has over her.
Assuming Mia to be Elora’s big sister, big in ways he had to work so diligently with Elora to achieve, Daman may ultimately remind her what her own name means and what he intends to do with her in this twisted world she finds herself in.
June O June continues, with six volunteers stepping right into roles they never asked for. But what is the role that waits at the end, and who is behind this mysteriously technological study of the mind?
The next Portal is.. a ball.
