Double-Stuffed Kreme: Unconscious Desires by Kris P. Kreme

Every Double-Stuffed Kreme is twice as nice for just one price!

At SanderTEC, word has come from the boss, a merger is coming with a big name that will change everything. But first there’s new software, screensavers, and an office policy change, one saying any employee caught sleeping on the job will be subject to the whims of others. And that policy once embraced means trouble for perpetually dozing new secretary Ashley.

Next, when Zack shows up at his parents’ for a long weekend away from campus, he finds a mysterious black metal disc with a toggle switch. Upon discovering it turns off whoever is around when he flips it, will this new power corrupt him even when he’s just turning it OFF?

Double-Stuffed Kreme continues without sleeping on the job of providing two brand new Tales from the Kreme, although sleeping on the job might just be where all the fun begins at SanderTEC, a small company about to merge with a mysterious new partner.

But in the lead-up to that merger, a memo on a new office policy has been sent to each of the employees, along with new software downloads and screensavers for their office computers. While the software downloads and installation may be expected, none of them are quite sure what the office policy that states any employee caught sleeping on the job is subject to the whims of the others means.

But after checking out the new screensavers, Larry, Bill, Martin, and Danielle are feeling a whole lot different about embracing the new policy, and unfortunately that means the perpetually lazy and drifting off new secretary, Ashley, will be getting a whole lot more familiar with each of her co-workers, even if she’s not conscious to realize it.

But who is the new merger with, and how far will the employees go to suddenly enjoy what used to be a mostly boring job with too much downtime?

But wait, there’s more…

With a lecture from his professor about absolute power corrupting absolutely, Zack is leaving campus for a long weekend to head home. Unlike his buddy Eric, who having a sister, has parents who don’t focus every single bit of attention to him, Zack can’t party the long weekend away and maybe finally get laid.

Instead he is making the drive home after ignoring Eric’s ongoing milf obsession with Zack’s realtor mother, Allison and shaking his head at what he knows is not going to be a fun long weekend at all. If Zack knows anything, his mother won’t leave him alone about any girls he may have met, and his father will be lecturing him about checking the fluids and everything else in the car.

But when Zack arrives home, he finds a mysterious black disc laying on the porch outside the front door of his home. With no words anywhere on it other than etched words ON and OFF above and below a toggle switch, he has no idea what it is, assuming it was left there by his father.

Yet neither of his parents know what it could be either, dismissing it as something the neighborhood kids left out. After deflecting questions about girls, Zack is soon listening to the beginning lecture of his father about his car, a long tradition that could literally go on for hours as his dad paces beside the front of it. And when Zack accidentally flips that toggle switch while listening… his dad just seemingly drops to the ground, lifeless.

Freaking out, it isn’t until Zack flips the toggle switch back to ON that he watches his dad rise right back up instantly continuing as though nothing happened. And he realizes somehow this switch controls him… or as he soon finds out, controls anyone around when he flips the switch.

Will absolute power corrupt absolutely, now that Zack has the ultimate escape from awkward conversations or time alone with his parents? Will Eric be any help or only push things further when calling to tell him about it? And in the end will Zack find a solution to all his problems, all by using The OFF switch?

It’s all about Unconscious Desires in this issue of Double-Stuffed Kreme, and whether at work or at home, turning OFF one thing can turn ON another!
