Be careful getting gas Readers

Fill'R Up by Kris P. Kreme

Fill’R Up by Kris P. Kreme

When Lucy and her father make a stop for gas and the facilities at a rural full-service gas station, neither could imagine what craziness a simple confusion causes.

Dealing with gut issues, Tyler is quick to shout to the man at the station that he needs to fill’r up, but when Manny the owner and operator of Manny’s Pitstop understands that as Fill Her Up, Lucy may be in for more than she expected.

While Tyler is gone, Manny is dealing with an initially reluctant Lucy, but does this odd gas station guy have a little technology as well as some brutishly capable talents no one could ever imagine?

Lucy is enjoying taking the wheel of her father’s old BMW as they drive country roads up to meet her mother and his wife at a remote cabin. What she’s not enjoying so much is the constant cold air from the AC her father Tyler insists on. But before this trip is over, she’ll have a lot bigger problems than being chilled thanks to a necessary stop at a full-service gas station.

Trying to be his usual easygoing pleasant and sometimes fun-poking self, Tyler is suffering some pretty serious gut pains, to the point he had to let Lucy take over driving for him. But it isn’t like the twenty-five year old Lucy can’t handle herself or his car. Still, as they talk everything from family to his teasing her about wearing more clothes so she isn’t cold all the time, his gut issues aren’t getting any better.

When Lucy notices the gas tank is pretty empty, they think the remote gas station called Manny’s Pitstop offers what they both need. Pulling into the full-service station with antique looking pumps, Tyler is running out the passenger door so fast he leaves it open, calling out to the man one simple direction which neither he nor Lucy knows will change everything about this particular pitstop.

“Fill’r Up,” he shouts, soon slamming the bathroom door behind him.

And so what is Lucy to think when Manny walks up, raps on her window and asks if the man he heard from was right, she needs a fill up? What is she to think when after checking the gas gauge again and confirming that she’s pretty empty, Manny is suddenly trying to drag her bodily from the car, claiming he needs to fill her up?

It isn’t until Manny has Lucy step in front of where she stopped the car, setting off a little three tone chime that usually results from cars stopping in front of the pumps. That is when Lucy suddenly feels cooperative about his truly filling her up.

But just how full can Manny pump Lucy up, and will he be sure and top off her fluids, check the air, and have quite the fill-up surprise for Tyler when he returns from the bathroom to his daughter at the car?

Readers Choice Month can be full of confusion sometimes, but Lucy is full of a whole lot more.
