More than a Big Foot by Kris P. Kreme

Nolan knows well he is lucky to have a beautiful fiancée like Nicole. But that doesn’t mean he’s lucky to have her with him while trying to take wilderness and wildlife photographs for an upcoming book.

Nicole has always been a bit panicked by everything, and definitely not a girl who ventures into remote territories like the Pacific Northwest. Whether it’s worrying everything and everyone is out to get her, or just freaking out when bugs bite her, she has ruined her fair share of shots.

But she may just get them both the rarest shot of all as Nicole attracts the attention of one predator no one wants to come face to face with, and he definitely isn’t hunting for food.

Nolan Nichols is really hoping his latest venture into one of the last remaining isolated wildernesses puts his name on the map of great photographers. He’s had his photos in National Geographic before but never has the name Nolan Nichols really become as known and successful as he’d like it to become, especially since he will soon be married.

Unfortunately, his own rather comically overreacting and fearful of everything fiancée may be the biggest hurdle he faces in getting the perfect shot during their nine days in the Pacific Northwest.

For days and days, she has accidentally ruined shot after shot, whether it’s freaking out because bugs are biting her or worrying irrationally that every animal wants to eat her, and every hiker is a potential abductor looking to sell her into sexual slavery. Nolan has taken it all in stride, but it definitely shows how far she has to go in maybe one day being a photography assistant he can count on.

After nine days though, in thick old growth, ancient trees surrounding them, Nolan really just wants to get one perfect shot, a photo so perfectly lit and balanced he can use it for the cover of his book. And as cute as Nicole is, she’s starting to get a bit annoying with all the fears and anxieties she has.

Whether it’s wearing orange pants because she thought he was serious in saying there were hunters around, or whether it’s her crazy idea to wear a belly revealing shirt just because she wanted to look sexy for him, Nicole is certainly not an outdoor kind of girl, but she makes up for it in determination and sheer adorable expressions, always bringing a smile to Nolan’s face despite the camera shots she may cost him.

Yet at the end of a long day, far from camp, in a deep dark ancient forested valley where Nolan tries to get shots of some elk drinking in a stream, Nicole may have an encounter she never imagined that changes both of their lives forever.

Right in the middle of a panic attack after some unknown predator in the area scares away the elk Nolan has been carefully following, Nicole waits at the top of a ridge, comforting herself by huddling between a couple of rocks. She’s trying to feel as safe as Nolan assured her she is, but all she can think is how everything wants to get her, bite her, eat her, or worse. And when she hears a crunching of twigs behind her, how could Nicole ever imagine the creature whose remarkably human-like furry hand grabs the top of her head.

Unable to scream, Nolan right down near the stream, focusing his camera opposite her, Nicole comes face to furry face with none-other-than a real live Bigfoot creature. But when suddenly she hears words within her mind, the creature focusing intently while holding her head, she discovers something that has mystified mankind as long as these legendary creatures have been written about.

They communicate telepathically, and this one recognizes her as female. But if this is how they communicate, Nicole may be truly shocked with how they continue their species… and what role this Bigfoot intends her to play in that process.

Nicole may have merely wanted to join her fiancée in the hopes she could become more comfortable in the remote wildernesses he photographs, to feel better about the creatures he frequently stalked with his finger on the shutter. How could she have ever known she’d be stalked by a creature notorious for avoiding photographs, and one with much More than a Big Foot?

Readers Choice Month gets mythically big, and Nicole might not be so small herself soon enough.
