An engaged couple, Brian and Katie, are going to the beach they met on over a previous spring break. But more than their relationship may break after an unfortunate breakdown leaves them stranded on the side of an interstate and a trucker stops to give them a lift.
Brian definitely lucked out with a hot redhead like Katie, although she’s fairly repressed and tame, a real romantic. But after catching a ride with friendly trucker Logan, Logan’s tuning into a local classic rock radio station T109 may just light the fire in Katie no one ever knew existed.
As Brian rides alone in the trailer, only room for one up front, Katie may soon be the one giving Logan a ride worth remembering.
Everything old is new again, readers… as Coverswap Shorties month begins. Coverswaps are brand new original tales inspired by fan favorite original covers from the Kreme. And first up is Spring Broke, a tale inspired by the cover for another story, Heated Seats. Pick up both and see which story does the cover better!
Brian and Katie are driving to the same beach where they first met over spring break not too many years ago, though Brian is mostly hanging on as Katie drives with most of her focus on their upcoming wedding in a few months.
As she gushes over romantic details and ideas for the perfect wedding, remembering how they met, Brian knows how lucky he was to find a girl like her. Unlike all the others on the beach that previous spring break, Katie was more conservatively dressed, quieter, but every bit as gorgeous a redhead as she is today. Maybe she wasn’t the wild slut guys might dream of finding on a crowded spring break beach… but she was all his, assuming they survived her frantic driving.
Katie is as virginal a girl as Brian ever met, though technically they’ve slept together a few times already… those times as tame and repressed as she always is. But the potholes and bad spots on the rural interstate are not exactly the excitement Brian was looking forward to heading to the beach with his fiancée.
And suddenly a grinding screech, Katie nearly losing control swerving into the breakdown lane, and smoke from somewhere makes it clear that this drive to the beach is not going to go as smoothly as either of them planned… and a lot more may be about to change that neither could ever imagine.
Broken down on the side of the interstate with nightfall fast approaching and few other drivers around, Brian and Katie still have each other… though after they are picked up by a friendly trucker named Logan, how long will they continue to have each other?
Logan is an older guy who runs this route all the time, and he really is friendly, no bad intentions when offering the stranded couple a ride. But there’s only room for one to ride up front with him, and Brian insists Katie be that one, no reason for her to be uncomfortable in the back of the trailer like he soon is.
Although Logan might be the one really uncomfortable soon as Katie is a bit incessant with the chatter about all the romantic planning for the upcoming wedding. So as a distraction he turns on the radio, finding a classic rock channel they both can quietly enjoy, T109.
But just what is it about the classic rock tunes that soon have Katie sitting on her side of the cab thinking things she never would think, soon asking Logan if she can do things a repressed young woman like her would certainly never do?
As Brian rides clueless in the back, he might have no idea what soon causes the swerving or the rough ride he’s experiencing, as up front Katie does things with Logan Brian only ever dreamed of her doing. And their upcoming marriage may be over before it ever begins, spring break truly Spring Broke… all thanks to a classic rock station that really puts certain listeners in the mood.
Up next… It all starts with a smile…
