Along a desolate road, with forest encroaching on poorly maintained pavement… June’s journey through time is about to continue. But this time it hits a bump in the road that might just rewrite history itself, or was it always a part of history in a place called The Kremey Zone?
June O has jumped through time ever since she was caught in the coolant chamber of a reality engine that powered the most insane ship ever, a Plutonian Chaos Cube. And her jumps from one date to another throughout all the years of the Tales from the Kreme have revealed startling facts to her… not the least of which is that those tales actually happened.
On the dates when the stories themselves were submitted for publication, the events those stories told somehow took place, real people she has interacted with, has tried to sway from their storied fates, and so far been unable to change anything significant enough to shake herself back into the proper timeline, the future she left behind, 2026.
But in the last time jump, June O stole something essential to the very history of the Kreme itself, a hard drive known as The Unknown 900, a powerful device that could inspire Kremey chaos and quite possibly counter her own chaotic time jumps enough to send her back where she belonged. Yet, June has no idea where the time bubble has spit her out with a crack of thunder and more lightning than usual this time.
It isn’t until she narrowly avoids being run over by a school bus that June starts to worry that her plan has not gone the way she thought it would. And upon finding that school bus abandoned down the road, the only evidence on it indicating the year is 2013, June is starting to freak out until for the first time the time vortex returns before she has figured anything out, and a decade later finds Detective Mandi Mind along that same stretch of road, seeking to solve a mystery that has eluded every law enforcement officer in and around the town of Greysville.
But when Mandi Mind searches a more recent mystery, the vanishing of Grey Manor, where the enigmatic Mr. Grey once lived off route 13, she finds evidence of things that couldn’t possibly exist, pieces of game systems her experts say has never been manufactured, products made by companies that never existed… at least in this universe. And in a shocking twist, those products seem to spark a little life into the strange electrical anomalies reported for years out in this remote part of town… one of those electrical anomalies sending Mandi jumping into another dimension, a parallel world where the products and companies she found evidence of exist.
But as she jumps out of her own dimensional timeline, who jumps into hers? June O is back, ten years from the moment she last stepped into the road, and she starts to realize that she and Mandi Mind are the same… though this version of her is so much less exciting, less curvy, and less red in the hair for some reason. Only by checking the radio in Detective Mind’s car can June figure out it is Saturday evening, January 7, 2023… and laying on the ground near that car is the leather-bound cover of a novel called The Unknown 900.
June O thought carrying the hard drive with her would take her home… take her where she belonged, or at least take her to the answers she sought, an ending to everything. And now June will use every bit of time she has as Mandi Mind in a drab reality where the Kreme never existed to find out a truth she has been seeking through time, who and what is really behind all of this and why is it happening.
But will June realize that she and her parallel dimensional twin Mandi Mind share a common story, and while Mandi’s ending hasn’t been written… hers is fast approaching, especially when she gets to speak to the writer himself, though even that writer goes by another name in this timeline, in this dimension, and in this reality.
