And after discovering that her ending was approaching, an ending that may just have something to do with her beginning, after discovering she herself had control over her time jumps, and after saving SINtendo by rebooting the SIN to all new extremes, June O has one last jump to make… this time stepping out of the singularity vortex into a darkened parking lot, late at night but not too late for there still to be some people at the large shopping mall in front of her.
But a sign outside that mall flashes the date, Wednesday, November 10, 2007… a shivering shock hitting June O because there WERE no Tales from the Kreme written in 2007. But there may have been a tale before the tales, one written by the occupant of a lone vehicle circling that mall, a man known in this time as Mr. Grey.
It isn’t the first time he has visited this mall, nor the first time he lost control and changed things… changed people. Chaos has been a diversion from a drab lonely existence for a long time, and others have always inspired that chaos.
Inside the mall, it’s late, but not too late to get what he craves, a late-night craving even he can’t satisfy, simply a desire to stop into the mall food court and get a milkshake.
It will all begin to go wrong at a place fittingly called The Joint in that food court, a burger joint run by seemingly only teenagers at this late an hour, and the two behind the counter as slacking as the girl at the counter, focused more on her nails than the customers still waiting in line.
Mindy is the girl, a beautiful teenager with more attitude than interest in her job. But little does Mindy or the various others in that food court know, the man waiting for a milkshake is not a man to be trifled with. He has an ability… to rewrite their reality, to teach them lessons, to put the ignorant, disrespectful masses in their place… and when he loses control, there is no coming back, their minds and bodies his to play with, to use and abuse, to dominate until they are broken.
Yet all he wants is a milkshake, trying to wait patiently in that line, noticing the mismatched pair of a fat man and his beautiful younger wife, a marriage of convenience, noticing the cruel girls at one of the tables teasing and taunting because they are perfection as society sees it, noticing the educated snobs who think more highly of themselves than anyone ever should… and yet he is maintaining control.
It’s just an evening where he wants to satisfy his late-night craving and leave, before anything bad happens, but thanks to Mindy and her attitude, and of course her telling him The Joint does not serve milkshakes, not even the equipment to make them, this will be An Evening Well Spent… where everyone, especially Mindy is quite well spent herself by the end of the night.
